Teaching Online Utilizing Technology (TOUT) Certificate Program
EDUCA2760 Social Media & Collaboration Tools
In this course I hope to gain mastery in using social media to connect with like-minded people in the education, nail technology, and financial freedom communities. Twitter is of great interest as I have recently seen the movie, Chef. I want to harness the power of social media to bring people together at lightning speed to accomplish those things that matter the most to each of us.

Now that this class is complete I have a better appreciation of the challenge adult learners have with technology. Programming for NASA in the mid eighties, I often forget that most of my contemporaries and some much younger than me, weren't exposed to technology as it was being developed. I was heartened by the drive and curiosity I found in my classmates as we investigated new tools. The excitement they showed lets me know that teachers are committed to continue to learn and grow for their students. This course gave me the opportunity to evaluate tools for my teaching practice and professional development. With the tools from this class, I am now able to focus and cull the information I receive from the world wide web. These tools give me a real sense of control, replacing the overwhelm I was feeling as I look for a way to contribute to education reform.
Probably the biggest gift this class gave me was a road map for my teaching practice. With my Professional Learning Network (PLN), news feeds from Feedly and communities on Twitter and Google+, I now have community. I will also use LinkedIn to find like-minded educators and help forward the learner centered progressive movement.
As we learned about using technology to teach online, we were being taught with technology online. If I can create a learning environment similar to the one in this course, my students will be engaged, enthusiastic, life long learners. I'm looking forward to increasing my network and knowledge to build a thriving online training practice.
